Winter fun

For people who want to have some winter fun without actually having to go up the mountains (and without spending a small fortune in the process), you can now go ice skating in Docklands. They’ve created what they call a “winter wonderland” in an old shed (Shed 4), with carnival rides for the kids, ice skating and plenty of hot foods and drinks. Admission is free, but skating will cost you $10 (including the skates); the rides cost $3 each. Go here for info on how to get there.

There will also be several winter-themed sport demonstrations: figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey and even bobsledding. It ends on July 10, and looks like a good program for a rainy Saturday with the kids.

Personally, I’ve never skated, on ice or otherwise, and I can think of easier ways to be humiliated in public. However, I’m told it is fun, specially if you are in a large group where most people don’t know how to skate either (I’d think it’s a good idea to have at least one good skater, though). One of these days I’ll have to try…
