Opening Ceremony

Was anyone there at the MCG for the opening? I watched the whole thing unfolds on TV and must say, greatly enjoyed it. The events that will stay in my mind? The flying tram, Ron walking on water and finally the birthday rendition to the Queen. I don’t think there has ever been an opening with a person walking on water! I kind of feel sorry for him because he would have been wet and cold.

The “walking on water” bit was great. I watched most of the ceremony on TV, and I really enjoyed it. I got to watch some of the fireworks from home, too, and they were very nicely done. Great start for the games.

I wasn’t there in person but I surprised myself by enjoying the show in front of the box. There were a lot of cultural-cringe moments and of course, all the time I was trying not to focus on the fact that it cost $55M. But in terms of presentation, that wasn’t bad at all.

I thought it was all great, but…what was with the duck? Can ANYONE explain this?

I’m glad I listened to the 3RRR commentary of the broadcast. They made it much more tolerable to view. (3RRR do this for the AFL Grand Final too. Recommended!)
