Egg whites for purchase
Bite me if I am wrong - when you need/want egg whites, the normal approach to get them is buy the eggs, break them, and separate the yolks from the whites, right?
Tonight when I was doing my grocery shopping in Lygon Street’s Safeway, I happened to overhear a girl asking help from the staff, saying she was looking for egg whites - and then, a couple of eyes from customers in the same aisle, who overheard the conversation, immediately started shooting weird looks towards that girl. Some elderly even went up to the girl and told her the ‘normal approach’ which I mentioned above. However, it looks like people (unfortunately, including me) who think the ‘normal approach’ normal lives in the Stone Age - there are indeed eggwhites for sale, and it looks like they are frozen, because the staff in safeway made it clear there are egg whites for sale, and he kept looking into the frozen food section.
So, here’s something new for me. Is that something new for you?

I’ve seen them in the USA, egg whites and egg yolks in cartons. I think they use those in fast food joints but I may be wrong.
Stop making me hungry.

Mmmm i love my eggs. *salivates*
Egg whites are used in the States for a number of reasons. Bakeries use them for obvious reasons. Health conscious (i.e. dieters, body builders) use them because they are all protein (sans the fat that comes in yolks). In the States eggs are much cheaper than they are in Melbourne. If you can buy the whites separated here, you will be money ahead for sure. Besides, then you don’t have to worry about what you are going to do with the leftover yolks (never a problem for me because I luuuurve yolks).
Thats one of the big food products I miss from the US. They have egg white bottles with vegetables included.
i’ll chime in with another - ‘yes, you can buy them in the states’. in every supermarket’s freezer section.
so did the safeway guy actually find them in the freezer? i’ve never noticed them here (but i’m normally at coles not safeway).
