Australia mourns as McNought fails to win Miss Universe. Despite top billing in the build up to the finals, she did not even picture in the Top 20.

The Brisbane native will return home with full knowledge she’ll not appear in next year’s Dancing with the Stars or star for Myer in television advertisements. *cough* Jennifer Hawkins *cough* Perhaps the mourning will not be felt so much in Victoria, but it’s a huge surprise that she failed to even challenge the ugly likes of eventual winner Zuleyka Jerris Rivera Mendoza of Puerto Rico or Lourdes Arevalos Elias of Paraguay. I seriously question the standard of judges and their political motives. The last 2 Miss Universe have been won by Commonwealth countries (Miss Australia in 2004 and Miss Canada in 2005). Could this be an insidious plot that viewers have stumbled upon?
