Southgate bans photos

southgate.JPGNews.com.au reports:
Southgate management has erected “no camera” signs around the Yarra River retail and dining centre after security guards tried to force tourists to delete photos taken of “obscure” parts of buildings.
The police were called when they refused.

I have heard of this happening in the US but this is the first case I have seen here. Has anyone here been stopped from taking photos?

I’ve been stopped from taking photos by security guards, but perhaps it’s because I was outside the Commonwealth Law Courts? *lol* That was probably about a year back too, and interested in architecture, I was just taking photos of the façades and structure and details of the building. Nothing sussed. But apparently, it was enough to make the security people nervous. :)

There’s a fair bit of discussion on this topic at the Melbourne Flickr Group as well.

Haven’t been stopped from taking photos in Melbourne, but I have in Broken Hill of all places. Was taking photos of this old drive in movie screen just out of the town, and a NSW Parks and Wildlife officer drove up to me in a ute and asked what I was doing there, saying that some motorbikes had gone missing from there the other day.
