I hope readers catch it before her run ends in Melbourne. Adam Sandler’s frat boy antics and loyal viewers - used to his low brow humour - are in for a surprise. I must say i was genuinely concerned the way i was shedding so much tears towards the end of the movie. It’s not a comedy. It’s a tearjerker.
In typical Adam Sandler style, he’s the underdog who is overworked and underpaid. About midway through the movie, it changes into a life lesson and a large reality check. I found myself crying hysterically with just about everyone else in the theatre with a heart. From that point on til the end, I’m using every piece of clothing to wipe the SNOT dripping down my chin!
Adam continues his slow transition to more serious territory. He’s looking a lot like Jim Carrey. Remember him? He of the i-can’t-be-taken-seriously joker who wowed everyone with his serious performances in The Truman Show and An Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
I say give Adam another 3-4 years and he’ll be commanding US$20 million a flick too.
Just like Jim Carrey.
