Victoria’s tourist information centre
It is the summer season in the northern hemisphere. Even though we feel that this time of the year is a low travel season, it is the peak tourist season for our northern friends. So, it is no surprise that there are many tourists from Europe, America as well as Asia visiting our fair country at this moment.
With friends visiting, I was in need of some inspiration as to what to do within a time frame. I needed information about hotels, kids friendly places to visit, ticket prices and opening hours. I have already tried the internet, visiting websites such as Australia as well as the official Victoria Tourist website, it is not the same as visiting a real tourist information centre.
Making my way to Federation Square, down the stairs to the basement to find the information I was searching. I wonders why is the Victoria’s official tourist information centre hidden in the underground? Are we embarassed? Do we have places to hide? No, just different. As well as efficient. Being underground means there is lots of space above ground for … well watching the world cup soccer on the large screen as well as other events.
Having found the place, I started looking for the relevant information amongst the stands surrounding the central customer service desks. High and low I searched, but I didn’t find what I wanted. I was looking for the official Victoria tourist information book. I found weekly Melbourne guides, guides to individual attractions, events, dining experiences as well as suggestions for walks, but not the official book.
I considered asking the customer service, but they were very busy. So busy that they have a queuing system installed. Take a ticket and wait … and wait … and wait.
So, where can I get my hands on the Victoria’s official tourist guide book?
