Charlton’s Kareoke and Pool Hall
This is one of those places that you end up in the middle of the night and never remember how to get back to in the future. To get to this place, you have to walk down to the end of a laneway and take a “dodgy” elevator up to the third floor. When the door opens, you are in the middle of the bar (sort of like a surprise party). The big features of this bar are its 7 day a week FREE karaoke and its pool hall.
Bar: The bar was normal and there was no problem getting quick service.
Location:It’s at the end of a very shady laneway near the corner of Little Bourke and Russell St. Not something you would casually walk by.
Drinks: Pretty standard priced drinks and beer on tap.
Is it a good place to meet the opposite sex?
Yes, karaoke always seems to bring in both sexes of Australian Idol wannabes.
Is it a good place to have conversation with friends?
You could definitely have a good conversation in the pool hall section. It’s a bit loud in the karaoke section but you can still have conversations depending on the ability of the person singing at the time.
How’s the music there? Is it a good place to dance?
They mix in popular songs including dance music in between sets of karaoke. There were always people dancing there.
Can I watch sports there?
Not unless singing is a sport.
I’d definitely recommend this place. Definitely not your typical Melbourne bar.
