It’s Show time…….and that means showbags….

showtime.jpgWhen I was in primary school, September meant school holidays and the Melbourne Show and Showbags.

Showbags, those wonderful super coloured plastic bags filled with lollies, promo materials and more plastic goodies. Forget about the animals and farmers market, which now that I’m older I realise is the point of the show.

A friends grandparents used to take four terribly excited kiddies to the show, clutching the $10 note (showbags were much cheaper then) their parents gave them. After a serious week of studying the showguide - gotta make sure you get the biggest bang for your buck, we made a beeline for our chosen stall. Back then showbags would actually run out - and if I recall correctly the show was only on for a week.

*UPDATE*
Melbourne MB mate Colin has more info on the Show.

My all time favourite showbag was the Wonderwoman bag, I’m showing my age here. It came with a bright yellow plastic belt, arm bands, a little head tiara thing and the wonderful magic lasso and some stickers.

Hours and hours of fun came from that particular excursion.

These days you gotta take your hats off to parents and grandparents who take kids to the show, it’s a pretty expensive excursion all round - plus the kids will be rocketing with the sugar high from all those freddo bags.

If you get the chance to, go head out to the show - fun for all, if you do have kiddies maybe steer clear of all that plastic….unless Wonder Woman is making a comeback.

Go on support the farmers, it’s their show after all
