Eureka Tower opens its doors
Eureka Tower opened its doors yesterday. Standing at 92 storeys high, its the tallest building in Melbourne, and the tallest residential building in the world! (Hello Guinness Book of World Records).
One of the interesting/noteworthy things about this is that the observation deck is located at level 88, which will therefore be the tallest vantage point you get in Melbourne, ever (yes, it beats the Rialto). It is sadly, however, not opening till early next year. (Call 03-9686 1588 in January or thereabouts for more information).
You can read about the lone resident (well, for a brief moment) in his studio, as well as the opening that Premier Steve Bracks was at, at The Age’s website.

I think you’ll find that Q1 (on the gold coast) is now the worlds tallest residential tower

This page backs up that: http://www.emporis.com/en/bu/sk/st/tp/co/?id=100012
It is very cool that Melbourne dominates the top 5.
That sounds like a challenge, Dan.
Can’t wait to go up there. They should put an Irish pub at the top.
Neil: I like your thinking!
mmmmmm Guinness
I would like to find out more about the Eureka so if you can send information to tur_boi04@hotmail.com
thanks
I stand corrected!
But it does seem like its a case of the spire on the Q1 being taller… i.e. we’re looking at 91 floors versus 80 (or 78, depending on which source you get it from) floors.
Nonetheless, I stand corrected :-)
http://www.emporis.com/en/bu/sk/st/tp/ty/rs/ is a good resource
Also, Eureka tower ranks #35 in the worlds tallest buildings - http://www.emporis.com/en/bu/sk/st/tp/wo/
impressive!
