Water bill in detail
Given that the second stage water restriction is going to be in place, I thought I had better inspect my water bill to try to reduce my usage. Instead, I found the amount I pay for water usage is an insignificant portion of the bill. Permit me to explain …
Every quarter, we pay for
1. Water Service Charge: $25.32
2. Sewerage Service Charge: $26.93
3. Drainage Charge: $20
4. Parks Charge: $52.53 minimum per annum
5 Sewage Disposal Charge: which uses a formula to compute the final value and finally
6. Water Usage Charge: amount of water used.
I had to visit City West Water website to find out what these charges are and how they are calculated. Accordingly, my water usage cost less than 10% of that final bill. So, even if I stopped using water, I’ll still be paying at least $70 per quarter just to be connected to a water supply.
Maybe I should stop showering?

I think it’s a fair amount for the service. Unless you want to take care of your own sewerage, fix any broken water mains yourself, install a water tank to catch “all” your storm water, as you won’t be needing storm water drains and finally, either turn all local parks into apartment buildings (or krispy kremes) or mow and maintain them yourself. There is a lot being done when you actually sit down and think about it :)
I hear you
a few years ago we put a swimming pool in the back yard. I had no idea how much it was going to impact the water bill to fill it up. People told me I could get the fire brigade to fill it for about $150 so I was expecting to pay a bit.
Anyway, when i rang the water board (or southeast water) to find out they told me it would cost $17, that’s right $17. If I went down there to get a permit it would exempt me from the drain/sewer charges of about $20.
no wonder there’s a shortage if water’s so cheap
