Your city has been invaded

2006_09240034.jpg Until a couple of days ago I had some photos stored away that i did not fully understand. As you can see here, this is a mosaic design based on Space Invaders placed on the bridge next to flinders st station. There is this one on the Fed Square side and there is another on the Southbank/Arts Centre side. There is also another in Carlton.

What makes this cooler than its appearance alone is that this is the work of one man, Invader. Over 35 cities world wide have been invaded. Check out his website here for a full listing of cities as well as some awesome kit for sale here.

Apparently there are more than the 3 I have mentioned. Has anyone else seen any in their travels?

Yeah, I live in Paris for about 5 months each year and they are everywhere in and around Paris. I’m pretty sure that the guy who started the whole thing is a Parisian. Apparently there are people who are copying his work, so there are fake space invaders showing up in Paris. The guy made a giant space invader and put it on top of one of my favorite clubs “Le Point Ephemere”. I haven’t seen any in Melbourne though; thanks for the heads up.

Apparently there’s one in Flinders Lane, but I haven’t been able to spot it. I heard somewhere that once his reputation got going, people were chiselling the mosaics off the walls and stealing them, so now he puts them up in high & hard-to-get-to places…

I’ve got the map of his Perth invasion (I’m originally from WA), which shows all the locations and how many “points” each one is worth. It’s hand-drawn and awesome. Where’s Melbourne’s map??

There is one (or at least used to be) near Loop in Myers Place off Bourke Street.

    nice pic – ben

Invader is from Amsterdam….think I read an article about him a little while ago….don’t know where.

There’s one in the lane to the Croft Institute – actually quite a few in/off lil bourke st, flinders lane….and one on the roof of a building next to the Forum and a couple in Prahran.

got a feeling that there might be a few fakes.

    check out this

might be able to spot a few more

There’s also one in Degraves Street, just next to all the famous graffitti corner.
