Some things never change…

I may be over 7,000km away, but it hasn’t stopped me from pouring over Australia’s online papers, The Age and The Australian daily. I read them frequently in Melbourne, as the daily read gives me an ink rush - the smell of fresh paper and ink is better than coffee and cigarettes, i reckon!

I couldn’t help not notice this little extract from Singapore. Ahh yes, some things just never change. Foreign media always insists on portraying Singapore as a scary place where petty crimes are justified with massive jail terms and/or death sentences. Check out what this teen has done.

At least the Australian papers and lawmakers have better things to do instead of sending random people to their ‘doom’ or publishing excerpts of ‘death threats’ to deter would be culprits.

Go Packer!

I don’t believe its meant to put bias on Singapore (this time anyway). Its been all over Digg, Slashdot, CNet, other tech sites because I believe its the first person who will receive a prison sentence for using someone elses wireless. Isn’t Singapore’s internet free of data quotas (unlike Australia)?

Yeah, note what you just said Neil - “This time only”.

More often than not, Singapore cops a lot of flak from the foreign medias. It’s quite amusing, coz it’s true. :O

hmm… did he circumvent security? cause I don’t think you need to ask permission to use something which is shared and your appliances pick up automatically…

Laws that’re applicable or commonplace worldwide are never practiced in Singapore. The government loves to go against the grain and implement its very special brand of laws. I’d love to go on, but knowing how the Singapore government tracks the movements of everyone from Singapore, i’ll stop here.
