Farewell Zone 3

zone_map_1_2_large_mediumSometime last week, Metlink said goodbye to Zone 3. Everyone including the media only seem to report negative aspects of Melbourne’s public transportation system. The system does have it’s flaws and we have definitely posted about it before but
credit should be given for getting rid of Zone 3. This immediately means a big savings for anyone living in the old Zone 3. For anyone holding a ticket that includes Zone 3, you will be able to get a pro rata replacement or refund. Here comes the math:

2 hour ticket, Flinders St. to Berwick before March 4 $7.20 After March 4, $5.20

Weekly, before March 4, $52.20 After March 4, $45.20

And so on… Now we wait for Myki.

Public transport now has just two zones

Prices for both zones will definitely go up now. There will be some savings for some people but it will simply be paid by others.

I personally would prefer better public transport rather than just cheaper one.
