No more telemarketers!

Finally! The do not call register is finally up and running.

The National Do Not Call Register will make it illegal for telemarketers to call numbers listed on the register, but certain organisations are exempt. They are government bodies, educational or religious organisations, charities and registered political parties. Why political parties are exempted is beyond me. And I am not sure I want to speak to anyone about religion. Of course, these telemarketers will call you if consent is given, though I’m not sure how you actually give consent. One of those forms where you have to tick a tiny little box?

Under the current legislation, telemarketers are not allowed to call before 9am or after 8pm on weekdays, nor before 9am or after 5pm on Saturdays. So, they can still disturb you when you are preparing for lunch or dinner.

I’ve been trying to access the site and it is loading extremely slowly with a header message stating

The Do Not Call Register is currently experiencing very high demand, thank you for your patience.

So, don’t be in a hurry.
