Update on Brunetti and Damian Cooper

Newspapers hardly ever post updates on stories or if they do, they are hidden somewhere in the back. Well, here are a couple of updates on stories we have covered in the past few months.

Brunetti-
Apparently, Brunetti will NOT CLOSE. They have signed a lease for another 5 years but speculation is that they are primed to move to Lygon Street. The Age also reports that there are “gushing notices” posted on the windows that state:

“In the spirit of good relations between ourselves and our landlord, the Halperin family, Brunetti are very pleased to announce that a new lease of the premises at Faraday Street, Carlton, has been negotiated and finalised. Brunetti welcomes the co-operation of our landlord towards reaching this satisfactory outcome for all concerned and we appreciate the spirit in which the Halperin family have conducted their negotiations towards this satisfactory outcome.”

Another day, another fatality-
Anyone passing by the phone booth on the corner of Lygon & Elgin street will notice fresh flowers and signs recently placed there. A couple of weeks ago would have been Damian Cooper’s birthday. Out of this tragedy comes a positive for road safety. Mark Cooper, Damian’s father, is now a “tireless road safety campaigner” and currently has his eyes set on a 40km/h limit in all Melbourne shopping strips. Meanwhile, there seems to be very little information about what happened that night. Was the guy driving drunk, speeding, ran a red light, brakes failed, who knows? Hopefully we will hear more about this.
