Free Hugs Day

Next Monday, 10 September 2007, is Free Hugs Day. According to the event’s profile on Facebook, the day commemorates the “tragedies that have befallen the world” and carefully places itself before the anniversary of 9/11. World peace, please!

More than 288,000 people around the world are recorded via Facebook to be participating in this event; it is listed as one of the University of Melbourne network’s popular events. I am unsure what that means, but I am hoping to perhaps see strangers with “Free Hugs” placards on the streets.

Hug-Horde Buttons are also being sold (US$0.89) and you can purchase one via PayPal (though I suspect that in doing so now, you will only receive them after the event date). I ordered one anyway since it looked rather cute.

    LOL

I was informed that an event of the similar nature was done earlier this year. Not everyone warmed up to the idea then, so in case that happens this time, do not try to force it on the unwilling!

    Where will you be around?
