To Woop Woop, and back.

In Australian vernacular, ‘woop woop’ means really far away.

Today, over coffee, several friends of mine started talking about how woop woop friends of theirs travel from to get to work in Melbourne.

Having recently just moved to Sunshine – after spending three glorious years in Brunswick – I think Sunshine is really out of the way. I’d have to think twice about cycling to the CBD on a daily basis now.

Of course, I didn’t know people lived in woop woop places such as Sunbury, Berwick or even Geelong and commute to and from Melbourne every day.

One word. Wow.

Where do you live? And how far would you draw your line before you tell yourself that it simply isn’t worth the travelling time?

Nice to meet a fellow Sunshine blogger :-) I first found it very much out of the way here (still do a bit) but I guess it could be worse.

Sunshine isn’t that bad – it’s in zone 1 at least.
Try living somewhere like Frankston, or Pakenham. That’s whoop-whoop :p

    Oh hello Suz,

well I’ve only been in Sunshine pretty darn recently, so I don’t really qualify as a Sunshiner. I told my partner after moving out of Brunswick that “you can take me out of Brunswick, but you can’t take the Brunswick out of me.” Hehe.

I wonder why the few stations after Sunshine such as Albion, Ginnifer and St Albans are considered Zone 2 when Sunshine is only seven stops out of the CBD. Other lines, such as the Frankston or Pakenham line, you have Zone 2 starting around the 12-15th station. I really think the entire Sydenham line ought to be Zone 1.

Still getting used to the suburb here. It’s VERY different from Brunswick.

I’m sure it would be very different here after Brunswick. But it’s not too bad, despite the media constantly pushing the idea that Brimbank sucks…

Yes the zones are a bit unfair. I’ve heard Zone 1 was being shifted down one station to Ginifer but I’m not sure (and still that’s not far enough).

For many years I traveled in from Melton to school and Melbourne uni. It wasn’t so much the distance (a bit over 40km from the GPO) as all the interchanges (bus, v/line, suburban trains, then trams) But now I live within walking distance of work and uni and don’t miss the 3+ hours a day sitting on public transport at all :)

“bus, v/line, suburban trains, then trams”

Holy jumping jellybeans. This is like an entire sub-culture to me. It’s simply mind-boggling the amount of travelling people do in 24 hours.
