Online dissent at the University of Melbourne

Students of the University of Melbourne would have by now been inflicted over 100 emails loosely regarding the poor state of the re-enrolment system being deployed this year. Several blame the Melbourne Model (I do, too) for the apparent stuff-ups, as issues like subjects being incorrectly listed or being listed at all, timetables being grossly inaccurate, and restructuring leading to incomplete majors amount in a flurry of emails.

What is interesting, though, is the hilarity of the exchanges. This is pure drama, and much of it actually floats around the realm of comedy:

  • Students calling for protest.
  • Students split into camps, flaming and insulting each other.
  • The odd clown who impersonates John Howard.
  • Notes claiming that the exchange is getting off-topic and thus suggesting a realignment - followed by more unrelated content (including a Youtube video of Captain Planet).
  • It is funny that I am reading all these instead of writing my final essays.

If you have got a friend who is a student in the University of Melbourne - get him/her to log-in to the school’s email system and show you the insanity. You will be entertained.
