A Great Time at The Tennis
Sorry, another tennis related post but cmon its exciting for Melbourne. I managed to get a great deal on EBAY the night before for a Vodafone pass. I was fortunate enough to see Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and a few others play. Given its my first time at the Australian Open, I made a few notes and pictures.
-Unlike previous years, ground passes will NOT get you into games at Vodafone Arena. Definitely worth the extra ~$20 for the Vodafone pass.
-Vodafone session passes will get you into every game at the arena on the day. Rod Laver tickets are only for individual games.
-Sharapova although still pretty, has a lot of competition in the looks category. Ivanovich comes to mind.
-Sharapova gets a bad rap of being loud but there were plenty of other girls (and guys) grunting at the same level.
-Metlink has done an excellent job with public transport to Melbourne Park including staff pointing people to trams and a vast amount of trams.
-Despite the capsicum spray incident, tennis crowds are by far the best crowds.
-The new blue Flexicushion courts look great.
-My prediction: Serena Williams to win the womens singles.
Definitely a fun time, with the first week having the most amount of matches to see. I would consider getting a 5 day pass next year.

Ack Sharapova is over-rated. She’s only big coz she’s the first successful white chick who marries looks and tennis. You don’t see people checking out the Williams sisters when they conquered everything before them in the early 2000s. There’s a reason why they don’t get as many endorsements - they look like the Uruk Hais in Lord of the Ring. Big, black, ugly and very scary. The media focused on their fashion style and tennis prowess, but never their looks.
Jokes aside, check out Czech Nicole Vaidisova, Russian Maria Kirilenko (Sharapova’s good mate), Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova, Australian Jessica Moore and yes the Serb Ana Ivanovic. Hell Elena Dementieva looks pretty damn good too before she got all lean and muscular this year.
Kirilenko, Hantuchova, Dementieva and Sharapova all burst into the scene at the same time. Anyone of them could have been the IT girl of tennis.
Hey has Corey Delaney returned home? He could be in the Open, sporting the moronic sunnies. Tennis might have to take a back seat.
You know it’s funny because many people were saying he looks like a tool. Well, he didn’t exactly just invent wearing feminine clothes and sunglasses. There were plenty of guys at the tennis who looked similar to him. Metrosexuals to the max.
BTW, I just googled Uruk Hais and laughed my ass off.
