Melbourne comes in third place for Asian Expats

Asian? Expatriate? Apparently, Singapore has topped the cities in the world, offering Asian expatriates the best quality of life. Melbourne came in third place, after Sydney! It wasn’t even a straight victory for us, as it tied with Kobe, Japan (never been there, but if its anything like Tokyo, its bound to be expensive, and fast paced).

Quality of infrastructure? We have good roads, it has regular traffic jams, but this is in every city possible. Public transport? OK, maybe we can improve, if we’re comparing it to Tokyo, but to Singapore? I don’t know, are we much worse than Singapore’s MRTs? Maybe fellow blogger adrock2xander, will tell us.

Health facilities? I’d like to think that Melbourne has top-notch health facilities. Sure, if you’re without an appointment, finding a doctor can be hard. Anyone know the doctor:patient ratio for Singapore vs. Sydney vs. Melbourne?

Low health risks? Melbourne definitely qualifies. Low air pollution? Surely, we must qualify again. Low crime rates? Well, I must say, its been steadily increasing in the last three to four years, but its still relatively low, in my opinion. Cosmopolitan population? Duh, its Melbourne – we’re as cosmopolitan as you’re going to get!

For completely other reasons, I read the blog of James Seng, and he talks about foreign talent in Singapore. He also mentioned, “In my last 20+ years in Singapore, I never felt as unwelcome here than these two years.” – I sincerely hope there’s never a time in Melbourne, any of us would feel unwelcome.

    Haha Darren got binned. :O

Well, I’ll like to leave this for Darren to answer really. I cannot talk about expats, Singapore and quality of life without a reference to how racist the Singapore Government is towards her own people (read: the Chinese, the Malays and the Indians) while she pays lip service to the foreigners (read: white people). Of course, race will be brought up again, and readers really don’t seem to like my race-related posts or comments anyway.

As for the standard of the MRTs, well, I’d like to answer that. I’ll make that a post actually. Give me a few days byte.
