But here's my two cents worth: I understand the statement made about parking. Swanston Street can only be opened up to car traffic IF it is made car parking ONLY and road humps are set in place every 10 meters to regulate speed. Swanston St. should be a 10km/h zone in the CBD (excluding cyclists on Copenhagens). Enforce strict regulations against cycling on the pavement on Swanston Street. Either pay for parking in the CBD, or bloody be content with 1/4P lots. Ban mammoth tourist buses and have a proper system in place for cab drivers, possibly forcing them to use the service lanes (the "little" streets) instead of the main street. They are a nuisance and they attempt to car-door / run over everyone. Mammoth tourist bus pickup/drop off should be done at the Arts Centre where there's a HUGE ASS lane for that purpose. Come on, I'm sure those people can walk. You can even have tinnier shuttle buses for that purpose, or force tourists to take the tram on a special ticket. Cars have been oppressed for too long. Get rid of parking signs, parking meters, parking inspectors, the proposed congestion levy, and undo those pointless tram super stops.
