Three Businessmen Who Brought Their Own Lunch

That’s what these guys are called.
I’ve walked past them enough to wonder what their names are, a sculptor called Paul Quinn crafted them.
Did you know that they represent our forefathers? Batman, Swanston and Hoddle.
So I guess their names would be Johnnie, Charlie and Bob.
Now I wonder whose who?

Awesome. Never really questioned what they may stand for, just accepted it as art.
Cool
I can see why Australia is now considered to be the fattest country in the world.
I walked by soooooo many times… Never thought that they have their names and they representative someone! Grrrrrr…
@angela n chris - yeah, kinda nice to know who they are now….I always thought of them as the alien dudes….hah!
@neil, if those Krispy Cremes keep appearing we certainly will be the great chubby country
Yes, but what does it mean? If these represent Batman, Swanston and Hoddle, why are they dressed as modern businessmen, why are they gawking like tourists, why did they bring their own lunch?
Inquiring minds want to know!
hmmmm, okay - here’s a little art hacking for our inquisitive flyboy…..
Johnjohn, Chuck and Bob are the city’s grandaddies right? They established the town and had “vision”.
Obviously they’re not with us today. Yet here they are slap bang in the centre of town….
hmmmm, perhaps a lil time travel here?
hence the alien nation look? Suits…well you gotta assimilate when you do a little time surfing (think MJ Fox and that hover board he had) and the favoured dress of 1830s would stand out just a little no?
all those buttons and skinny pants and boots….hang on….isn’t that what’s hitting the catwalks of Milan now?
Lunch? You get hungry, don’t know what’s available…maybe their vegan?….personally I always carry a museli bar with me - makes yoga class pretty amusing.
This trio kinda digged their expeditions so supplies would be up there in their daily must haves…..
And I dare say tea-houses would have just been coming into their own…..
Cause Melbourne was just a mini version of Ray’s Tent City and shacks on the Yarra’s banks back then….
Melbourne’s come a long long way - certainly “gawk” worthy don’cha think.
Did you know that our town had a couple of temp names before ‘Melbourne’ was selected? We were named after the Brit PM at the time “Lord Melbourne”.
Wonder what those other names were….?
Imagine calling a city after our PM….johnnie-town!!!
Yeah, ok, I’ll buy that :)
I know “Bearbrass” was the original name of Melbourne, I didn’t know there’d been others. A bit of googling reveals that “Glenelg” and “Dutigalla” were two others:

Glad they went with Melbourne!
grazie a mille, molto soddisfatto lei ha approvato.
love it!
“Bearbrass - On the move”
“Dutigalla - The place to be”
“Glenelg - Garden State”
thank god they chose a PM!
What is Batman doing in Australia?
And, where’s Robin?
Laurie
Uh… forgive my ignorance, but dare I ask where this is located?
It’s already somewhere near the top of my things-yet-to-see-in-melbourne list.
Corner of Swanston and Bourke St.
Batman wanted to name the city Batmania.
I wish I was a Batmanian.
I always call this the Tom, Dick and Harry statues!:)
