Maybe the worst fire Melbourne has ever seen

That’s what some are saying. Today could bring the worst fire Melbourne has ever seen. Eighteen fires are burning across state forest in the alpine and Gippsland regions, today it is expected that these will merge creating a fire with a whopping 100km front. The Age has a flash movie showing the progress of the fires here.

Already this morning looking out of my window there is a thick layer of smoke sitting on top of the city.

How do you stop a 100km long fire? Scary stuff.

    they predicted 600,000 ha are under threat. Hope the campaign to “defend or leave” has worked.
