So that means international cables, and they make our costs of running copper from Ballarat to Bendigo look like pocket change you couldn’t buy a bag of mixed lollies for. And they cost a lot to run. And they’re owned mostly by a very very small number of companies, who have to pay the USAians and the Europeans on a per-gigabit basis for our traffic, as well as maintain the big pipe plugs at each end and several multi-million-dollar ocean going vessels (with highly trained, highly paid crews) to do maintenance and repairs.

i saw this bunch of taxi drivers while having a late night meal in king of kings in chinatown, and the muticultural-ness of them just really impressed me. they were REALLY good friends with each other joking and swearing loudly. and they weren’t even all that australian either. they all still had their respective ethnic accents. i managed to get them to pose for a photo.

there was the arab, the chinese, the indian, the pakistani and the armenian.

now i guess when we need a meeting spot, we’ll all meet at “the old nike melbourne place”.

i wonder what’s going to replace it. who would’ve thought a nike shop had the ability to close down. those dudes throw money like it don’t mean nothing…
